Temperature Problems
- Rooms Vary
Conventional heating/cooling systems try to keep all areas the same
temperature, but this fails in practice
- People Vary
Even if all work areas could be kept to be the same temperature, different
people prefer different temperatures
- Airflow needs vary
People are not unchanging: needs can vary day-to-day, or even
hourly
- Conference Room & Common Areas Airflow
needs change based on the number of attendees, whether or not the door
is closed, heat from electronics, meeting energy level, etc.
- Alternative
Solutions are not Ideal there have been solutions available
for decades to control the temperature within each office / area. However,
these solutions are so poor that virtually none are installed
Fresh Air Problems Insufficient Airflow
- As with Temperature problems above, offices /
individuals / and daily needs change Sometimes, even when a room is
the right temperature, the air seems stuffy or stale
- Too much Carbon Dioxide
- Too little Oxygen
- Excessive humidity relative to other areas
- Too many airborne contaminants, odors, etc.
- Current thermostats cannot control the amount of extra
air an area needs, except to leave the Fan On constantly
- Leaving the Fan On (typically 2-4 times as long
as needed) wastes energy & money
- Not possible with older generation temperature
control solutions
Humidity Problems
- The Apparent Temperature that a person feels is a function
of both temperature and Humidity. Individuals should not only
be able to receive the exact temperature they request, but optionally
receive the temperature that would make them most comfortable, accounting
for differences in Humidity
- As with Temperature & Fresh Air issues above,
offices / individuals / and daily needs change. Sometimes,
areas are so humid or so dry, that extra Fresh Air does not resolve
Humidity problems. At these times, a room should be Humidified or Dehumidified:
- Some offices generate excessive Humidity
which should be decreased
- Some individuals prefer less or more Humidity.
E.g.: less in summers and more in winters
The After-Hours HVAC Problem
- Employees sometimes want to work extra early or
late, or during weekends. However, when the entire HVAC system is turned
off, air can become excessively hot, cold, muggy, or smelly. This results
in:
- Employees working less - "Why should
l work extra, if I can't even get breathable air?"
- Employees in unnecessary discomfort, being
punished for doing their companies a favor
- We allow individual HVAC to be provided for the
employee at any time on any day
- subject to Facility policy
- If current Building Lease terms call for a large
additional cost for entire-building HVAC, a Lease Addendum can be made
for smaller fees for minimal HVAC usage. Ols Controls provides accurate
3rd party data re how much energy was used. This enables win-win-win
deals between Landlords, Tenant Companies, and Employees
Privacy & Noise Concerns
- About half of all sound transfer between offices
travels through the HVAC ducting. Conventional HVAC systems and other
multi-zone temperature control systems are unable to abate this problem.
Ols Controls can greatly reduce this sound transfer, decreasing unwanted
noise and increasing voice privacy
