This design was to have 5" solid Brass letters for "Old Ranch Road", which would also be lit at night
with a small light shining at each Brass word. Per drawing below, the roof was to slope backwards to
keep rain off our hands while accessing the mail. These ideas could be incorporated into your other ideas.

The price of this was to be $1600 for the enclosure for the mailboxes with work to be done by Paul Columbo,
whom many of you know (add ons for Parcel Boxes and/or for locking Outgoing Mail Boxes would add a
bit more).

While anyone or everyone can get his/her own mailbox, I suggest that those of us who want to all get the
same mailbox both to save money and to make the result possibly look nicer.

FYI, these mailboxes can be used with this or other designs. They have heavy cast Brass mailslots, powdercoated
heavy cast Aluminum fronts, with brass locks. They are $125 each, but I was quoted $95 and no shipping charges
for a quantity purchase. I believe Los Gatos Hardware next to the Post Office has other mailboxes from
this company, to give you an idea of their design, quality, durability, etc. Their website is at:
http://www.mailboxes.com/product.asp?catalog_name=Mailboxes&category_name=Column+Mailboxes&product_id=425&Related_Product=&sCondition=CategoryName='Column+Mailboxes'+And+DefinitionName='Mailbox'+And+W_O_SLOT='W/+SLOT'&Previous=yes (sorry neighbors, I cannot get these two to hyperlink, so you have to cut & paste)

FYI II, the Parcel Boxes I had suggested are $500 for each set of 2 boxes (I thought we might like 3 sets (i.e., 6
boxes) for the road). We would also receive a 25% discount + free shipping if we purchase a quantity of mailboxes from them:
http://www.mailboxes.com/product.asp?catalog_name=Mailboxes&category_name=Parcel+Lockers&product_id=1553&Related_Product=&sCondition=&Previous=yes

FYI III, the Trailside 2000 has also been recommended by some neighbors. Click here . Both of these mailboxes
are now USPS Approved and can be incorporated into our designs (as might other mailboxes). The Trailside
2000 is $159, though a quantity discount might (or might not, I have not checked) reduce this. You may note that
neither of these 2 mailboxes locks outgoing mail (which is why we might want a separate locking Outgoing Mailbox).

FYI IV, Click here to see the original Proposals I made to the ORRUA and included in the 2 Binders which were
passed around the room.

Per the emails below from the associate of ORR neighbor Brian Buskirk, the cost to create an
enclosure consistent with the sketches above would be $4300+ (i.e., about 2.5 times the
$1600 price of the other design). While this is only my conjecture, I suspect some of the ~double
cost is because the enclosure would be twice as long if the mailboxes are on a single level.

One characteristic that Eric Sitzenstatter & I do not like as much about this design is that it would
channel rainwater onto our hands & mail if accessed when raining. A design whose roof slopes *back*
the entire way would not have this problem, in case this helps you creating a new / better design.

Joe,

The sketch was meant to give you an idea about what the design of a timber
frame structure could look like, it wasn't intended to be a set of work
drawings.

Here are some more numbers:
as in estimation before:
cost of labor for structure in post&beam style $3,000.00

lumber depending on type and quality:
doug fir vs. redwood/dried and clear etc. $700.00-1,500.00

Cost for roofing depending on material
e.g. plywood or t&g boards/asphalt shingles, shakes or slate
material: starting $200.00
labor: starting $400.00
Thanks
Alex

PS sorry about the slow response, I am just so busy right now.
